Just had terrible sickness sweep through our house. Youngest[7} still affected after 5 days nagging cough. Usually cooked onion in baggy on chest does the trick, but doesn’t seem to touch it, nor any of my essential oils for dry cough. He describes as a tickle and he is napping twice a day. Any suggestions, drinking lemon water well and urinating well. Misting my house with pot on stove. Thanks, MArtha

That sounds like the sickness that went through here. The cough lasts and lasts and lasts. Up to six weeks, for some people. And we were completely exhausted with it. I felt like I had mono…..but no sore throat.

I would try eucalyptus oil in a diffuser while they are sleeping (if you haven’t already tried that), and lots of immune boosters, like garlic, lemon balm and elderberry.

Hope its short lived at your house!

Missus Leata, you must have been reading my mind. I slathered his feet in eucalyptus oil and put socks on and he’s been resting peacefully for an hour. Praise be to God! My diffuser has died and I need to get it replaced. Any advice on a junkyard diffuser? I used an old stainless steel pot once, but I don’t know where it trailed off to. Thanks, Martha

Garlic and honey a few times a day. I chop a clove (small or half for little ones) in tiny pieces and cover it with lots of honey and have them swallow it. Some may complain, but then they get used to the drill… hopefully!

For a bedroom, in a pinch, you can put boiling water in a glass bowl and add eucalyptus to it. It’ll put steam and the oil in the air. I also use Scentsy diffusers for bedrooms. As long as you using oils that are steam distilled, the heat shouldn’t hurt them. Just don’t use cold pressed oils (like citrus) if you want the medicinal benefit of the oils.

We use cough tea tincture in our house. I buy the cough tea mix from The Bulk Herb Store, put it in a mason jar, add vodka, let it sit for 6 weeks, squeeze out all the vodka, pitch the herbs, and then serve 1/4 teaspoon tincture in a bit of water once an hour.

I am also a believer in the Good Girl Moonshine – I use less ginger b/c I don’t like ginger, but 1 T. Or a little more of Apple Cider Vinegar (with mother) in a quart of water really helped me fight off sickness this winter.

We had that awful cold go thru our house, too. And everyone else was coughing and sick for 3 weeks or more, but we only had it for a week and it was minor at that.

    Best wishes for quick recovery!

Just a simple humidifier while they sleep can be so soothing for a dry cough.
