She forgot how to hold a pencil?!?

Yesterday we sat down to do math and my 6 yr old, who has had perfect pencil grip from pretty much the first time she picked up a pencil, just completely forgot how to hold a pencil. She was trying to fist grab it like a toddler, and then when I tried to show her how to hold it she just couldn’t do it. I decided to write for her, hoping she would snap out of it overnight, but today it’s the same story.

Has anyone here had this experience? What should I do?

At first I really thought she was just playing a joke on me, but she convinced me it’s for real.

Is she having any other issues that might indicate a stroke?  She she off at all other than the pencil hold?

Yikes! No, I haven’t noticed any other changes or regressions.

Could it be an attention-seeking behavior?  We are dealing with that right now with our 4yo dd.  We recently had a new baby and dd loves her bunches but will do ANYthing to get and keep our attention

My best guess is that she is somehow just overthinking it now when we sit down to do math. I talked to my husband about it last night and he suggested I ask her to color with me (which she loves) and bring out the colored pencils and see if she remembers how to hold the pencil when she’s not thinking about it. I’m going to give that a try today.
