For those of y’all that have used E Nesbit’s and Charles and Mary Lamb’s retelling of Shakespear for children, which did you prefer?  And why?

    Thank you!

I personally prefer the Lamb’s.  I do like the gentle language and the illustrations in Nesbit, but IMO some of the plays have TOO much taken out and we couldn’t follow what was going on.  Midsummer Night’s Dream being a prime example.  We have both, and have been known to read BOTH stories, sometimes with the kids begging for Leon Garfield’s version also!

We sort of bounce back and forth between the two, although much of the time Nesbit feels a bit too fast.  I actually much prefer the illustrated Bruce Coville books.

We enjoy the Little Bird audios of Nesbit and reading Lamb aloud and silently for it’s greater depth and richness. We play our Little Bird audios during teatime after we read poetry and while my kids do handicrafts like knitting or sloyd.
