We are trying to finish up Mod 2 and quite honestly I’m not sure if I like the SCM Mods or not because I have yet to follow them as written.  I have either modified the schedule, substituted books, or both.  I really like the look of the Diana Waring History Alive series.  I have an older version of the Ancient Civilizations here, but not the CDs.  I like how it’s broken down by week and has so many options to choose from in terms of assignments suited to every learning type.  I could see it being a great option for a co-op or family with several children.

I am wondering how those of you who use the CDs in conjunction with other programs make that work.  Do you substitute them as the spine?  Do you use them along side the spine?  For those of you who have used the Waring curiculum, are the articles in the book included in audio version on the CDs?  Seeing as we are finsihing up the Greeks I was looking at the second Diana Waring — Romans,.  I know that’s a long stretch and I thought of slowing it down by doing six units a year rather than nine, there by giving us more time with units we would like to explore deeper.

Any advice/opinions on using the Waring curriculum or combining the CDs with SCM would be appreciated?

I have done it both ways.  Really, things don’t have to line up perfectly.  If you want it to, it will take a lot of time for you to make it all gel.

Pollysoup, did you pefer one way over the other?  What did you think of the Waring curriculum?  My boys will be in 5th and 8th next year.

Bumping . . . I know I’ve heard some on here mention this program in the past. There is a lot I like about what I see of it. I am also interested in the responses to the OP questions. How do you compare them? Why do you prefer one or the other?

I have been previewing her ancients CD when I am alone in the car & I love it. I have learned so much background information for familiar scripture that I didn’t know. For example, I had no idea Nineva was about the size of the very large metropolitan area we live in. Diana Waring really brought to life for me Jonah and what that would truly look like today. The archeology in it is fascinating.

I have 4 children between ages 5 & 10. We are doing geography this year. When we start ancients, after geography, and go through history chronologically I plan on playing Diana Warings CDs in the car as we go. So her CDs will supplement our spines. She is truly engaging to listen to for me, and has a lot of good information. I also appreciate her Biblical worldview.

I considered her curriculum, but it looked like one my personality would try to do all with and it would be too much. For a mom that could pick & choose I see much potential.

If anyone is interested, I have two sets of her Romans, Reformers, Revolutionaries I’ll send for shipping (probably about $5 in the States.) This is the older, original sets, i believe. I’ve never used them. I don’t know if any updates were done when AIG began publishing them. The sets include:

    The Study Guide

    The Activity Book

Maps/Timeline Pack (as far as I know this is complete)

No writing that I can tell. Like new. Honestly I have no idea when or where I got them. I’ve used nothing but TQ since 2001. When I was on the TN homeschool state board, folks used to give me things to pass on to other homeschoolers. Maybe that’s where this came from? Anyway, that’s what I want to do. :). PM me if you’re interested in a set. I have 2.

I’m a single mom and just don’t have the time to make it all gel – exactly.  I prefer it that way, but my children don’t really mind either way.  We mostly use her CD’s.  I have the RRR set.  I don’t use it except for mapping, timeline help and helping to know what CD’s programs go togehter.  HTH!
