I am considering one of the SCM bible studies for my 7th and 9th graders next year. I’m curious to hear from those who have actually used them. How did you schedule them? What did your children think of them? Did you use them for family discussions? Did you just put it on the schedule 1 day per week or did you schedule “reflection” time each day? Did you also assign daily bible reading? This isn’t an exhaustive list of questions…really I just want to hear from you and learn any tips & tricks, etc.

It’s my desire that my children are in the word daily. I also desire that we come together each week to discuss the word. And I want them to learn new ways of reading and studying the Bible.

This year I had the entire family (all kids who could read and mom & dad) on the same reading plan for the NT in a year. We then got together each Sunday afternoon and discussed the readings. It was fruitful and I want to build on that next school year.

We used Jashub’s Journal as a family study a few years ago and LOVED it.  In our family devotions, my husband was reading through the Bible and some of those seemingly “dry” parts in the law were much more alive to the kids because of Jashub’s Journal. I highly recommend it!

My kids were pretty young at the time and I read and we discussed the questions in the book together. I didn’t assign anything extra. We did it during a year of Ancient history and that was part of our study of Ancient Israel, so we did it in about 6 weeks.
