So my children loved the Fulbright books and we’ve done all 6.  Next year and possibly the following year I would like to do something different.  Any suggestions?  Any unit study ideas?  What would you do?  My boys will be in K, 2, 5, & 6th grades.

Some thoughts were to just read books about things like rocks, insects, birds, body, weather, animals, plants.  Which is about 50% of the same thing as the Fulbright books, but just read good literature about them.  What do you think?  Maybe split my top 6 into 3 terms and then in my 3rd year go back to the Fulbright books?

Or is that to long to skip the Fulbright books for the younger 2 (K & 2nd)?  I really liked them, the body book was was harder so maybe I could do that in the top 6 and do more age approriate books?  What are your thoughts

We’ve recently picked up a used set of God’s Design for Science and are really enjoying them.

    Misty,

I think that is a great idea! Are you doing Nature Study? You could take it a step further and start having the boys collecting things! Divide the subjects out during the year and then do some experiments. There are great experiments for weather and such. You might include some DVD’s relating to the subject. Do you have the Moody DVDs? Or able to rent something like them at the library? If not a great website for online science videos is http://www.neok12.com  Here is another great site to science links that may help!      http://www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/links/linksscience.html   You might even want to check out the Dover coloring books on these subjects. They are real life drawings with bits of info printed on each pg about each one.

Some great Living Books are Among the Pond People, Forest People, etc.. by Clara Dillingham Pierson!

Like you metioned, going back to the Fulbright books at the end of the year/summer would be a good idea for the younger ones to learn it better!

    Have Fun!!

Have you looked at Queen’s Discovering Nature Curriculum?  I haven’t used it but it looks good and I am keeping it in mind for the future.  Queen’s also has some living books about nature.  The Story Book of Science, The Story Book of Birds and Beasts and Animal Life in Field and Garden,  all by Jean Henri Fabre.
