Science not a family subject?

Why does SCM recommend science as an individual study for each student/grade, along with Math and Language Arts?  Isn’t science one of those subjects families can study together?  Just curious.

SCM does recommend science as a daily through 6th grade.  🙂

On the 1-12 overview page, when you click on science you are taken to a page for yearly independent studies.  When you click on any grade through 6 it does suggest a living study that can be done with the family.  In other places Sonya discusses and advocates for family science.

For grades 1-6 you can teach all your students together, and we recommend that. We don’t list science as a family subject because grades 7-12 do that subject individually.

We have several science studies for grades 1-6. For a year of science, we recommend completing two or three lessons each week in whichever study you choose, with an additional day for nature study.
