Last year, my 9yo son caught a Praying Mantis. He fed it. Watched it grow and molt throughout the summer. Discovered that it was a female and caught a male and put it in with her. She laid an egg sac. He named her Zipper. We all cried when she died.

Well, this year, he caught another. He’s already molted once. His name is ZJ, Zipper Junior. =)

Our feral cat, who is the mother and/or grandmother of all the cats on our mountain had another litter on the 3rd. She has disappeared. =( My oldest son has taken on the role of mother for the two surviving kittens.

We discovered an unusually large and ugly bug under our deck lights at night. Identified it as the Dobson Fly. My littles woke up in the wee hours to watch them gather. They don’t do anything when they gather, the insect id book says it doesn’t eat. There were 5 males and three females on our deck. Scattered about, not ‘talking’ or anything. LOL

I’m praying the other areas of CM Education will be as easy and natural as Nature Study. I couldn’t think of anybody else to share this information with, I hope you don’t mind….

Thank you, Pam! Can’t say all areas are as easy as this area; but you know, if God has immersed us in it He must have a purpose so we really ought to learn about it. Another encouragement to immerse ourselves and our children in things of value.
