The link you provided with how you do your binder is so helpful. I have been working on mine today and think I will really like this way of planning. I do have a question though. I noticed you have tabs for math, spelling, grammar, etc. So what do you put in those files? Do you put their actual math worksheets etc. or do you scan table of contents for those as well? Also curious what grammar you use and if it is CM friendly. I have a 9 year old and we are required grammar in our state. I’m just not sure what to use in this area. I would love to know what is actually in each section as your blog post has been so helpful to me already. Thank you!
So I use Sheraz’s idea of the TOC along with the tabs in the binder. I have each copy of the TOC behind each tab. I included tabs for each child and that shows the goals for them. I’m thinking this would also be a good spot to put the evaluation charts mentioned from Christie in another post. On the front of my binder I have a vertical sheet showing our days down the left column and each subject is followed by small boxes. I mark the date in the top box and either check off the subject or dash if we missed it. We just continue the next day. Hope that helps you.
@momof3 – I used the table of contents in all of my areas, ncluding math, spelling, and grammar. Just dot the date by the lesson title. I use the Intermediate Language Lessons for grammar. I responded to your question on your other thread and included links to what I have.
@mrsmccardell – I think that is a FABULOUS idea to include your goals, term and end of year evaluations as well as a few samples as you go. Your portfolios would be complete as you finish the year and it would be comprehensive in case it was needed through the year as well. How easy that would be!!
Thank you! So for say artist or composer study or art, what exactly do you put in those files? I feel like I’m finally getting organized so thank you so much!
I typed a page with the various artists and their works we were studying, then put the date by the picture we studied.
Like this (I am so making up all the names):
Renoir Picture Study
__ The Life of Renior (biography)
Pictures to Study:
___ Girls At the Piano
___ The Balcony Scene
___ Girl with A Watering Can
___ The Clown
___ A Day at the Beach
etc.
And repeat for the next artist…the SCM portfolios are great for this since all the prints with names and the biography are in one place. You could do the same thing with the composers and their works you listen to.
I have a charlotte mason term planner I developed for myself and others. I made 3 versions specifically for 1, 2 or 3 students. I also ask for your student’s names so I can type them into the planner (so you don’t have to). (wink, wink)
