I’m new to this and have been reading and reserching through these pages.  It looks like music and artists are on a 6 year rotation, so grades 1-6 and then 7-12. Does that mean you start over at grade 7?  I’m looking at all the artists listed and know I can’t get through them all and see other mentions that I love, but how do you do it?

You can do picture study faster/slower than the pace suggested here.  We’ve done more artists some years, less when we just couldn’t fit it into our days.

Some families use the pictures as screen savers, or hang them in a particular room.  Others keep masterpiece books, or use calendars by the artists to be able to become acquainted with more of their workds.  It’s really up to you.

Some years, we’ve been very focussed and studied an artist each month.  Other years, or parts of years, we’ve only covered an artist each term (meaning only three for an entire “school year.”)

I’d suggest choosing your favorites, or those you feel will appeal most to your children and divide that number over the amount of time you have to cover them.  That will give you an idea of how many you’d be able to study realistically.  You can also just choose those artists that fit into the historical time periods you’ll be studying and don’t fret over those you just can’t study.  You’re building a habit of attention and an appreciation for art.  This isn’t for a grade.  It’s exposure to beauty and possibilities.

There are great discussions within the archives of this forum, on Charlotte Mason Help, and the Ambleside Online sites.  Another great resource are some of the fine blogs that include picture study.  Some families just use the e-mail subscription to the All Things Bright and Beautiful for picture study, composer study, and poetry.  You can find it here:
