The two I suggest have already been recommended, but here’s a link:

Rocks and Minerals: A Gem of a Book

    and for the older ones:

The Geology Book (Wonders of Creation); though I recommend getting the Wonders of Creation Series books at a used price at Amazon or get the set at Library and Educational Services for drastically reduced price.
Plus, the First Guides for identifiication with colorful illustrations or photos from Peterson or Audubon or one of those companies.

Went looking for the rock books this morning and ran into a problem. We believe in a literal 6 day creation and many of the rock books are VERY evolution.

I found some that would work (usually general information books about identifying rocks) but would love a “spine book” to guide me. Three possibilities were mentioned: Geology Rocks, Earth’s Adventures and The Geology Book. Would any of these be easy to use from the creationist perspective?

Are there any other recommendations for studying this from a creationist perspective? I do have the Fossil Book and the Answer Book by Answers in Genesis so those may help but would love some more.

The Geology Book I mentioned from the Wonders of Creation Series is a young earth viewpoint. They are published by Masterbooks (MB) and off a free study guide at their site: http://www.masterbooks.net . At their site, pay special attention on the left to ‘children’ and ‘creation’ science sections on which you can click. They have great boooks on volcanoes and the Grand Canyon-both rock related. It is more suited to a 9 yr, old that is scientifically inclined and up

I’m not surprised that the other isn’t, but if you have older children who have already been immersed in YE, should be able to overlook the evolutionary content and just use the scientific info. about rocks and gems. Same thing goes for the First Guide Indentification books; they are so handy to have; my children have had no confusion using them.

Apologia will be coming out w/a Geology book in 2012/2013. It will be young-earth.

Answers in Genesis’ G-d’s Design for Heaven and Earth: Our Planet Earth one covers rocks; if you’re looking for something for an organized teaching course.

There’s one called Rock Solid Answers from MB for ages 14+

Geology by Design from MB for ages 10 and up (or really intersted 8 or 9 yr, olds.)

There may be some DVD’s from MB and AIG, too.

Thanks Rachel! That helps a lot.

Esby, can you tell me if the Earth’s Adventures book you use as a spine is from a young earth or old earth perspective?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Rebecca,
    Earth’s Adventures is old-earth.
