For those of you who are teaching RSM to multiple ages, what materials do you share and what materials do you have individually for each child? I know they should each have their own abacus but what else? We are new to RSM this year.

    Thanks!

I am using right start with two children (level A and level C). Because it is a more teacher intensive program (meaning I am present or involved in most of the lesson) I do not have the children do math at the same time. Because of this, we are able to share all of the manipulatives. The only thing they each need separately is the set of worksheets. I suppose an abacus for each child could be useful if one is using it for an independent worksheet while the other is needing it to work with you on the lesson. As for the manipulatives and game kit we have not had any issues with sharing. I am not a right start expert but have really been enjoying the program and so have my children. Just as a heads up- we don’t always finish a whole lesson in one day. I just set a timer and when it goes off we just finish up where we are and move forward the next day. I also try to build in time for a game at the end of most days because my kids enjoy and request them. I hope this helped a bit.

That does help.  My kids are at different levels too and I am currently only doing it with one of them but I do plan to start my other two with it next year after I have the method down. The other two like the Singapore Math they have been using but I imagine they will want more manipulatives before too long.  They are only a year apart so they are so close in math that I thought I might let them play some games together.  That’s why I was wondering if the kids needed their own abacus and any other materials.  thanks for the advise about the timer.  My son is in Level E (almost 10 years old) and I am sure he would still like to only have math for 30 min.
