Quick question…since the Oxford First Ancient History is so hard to find unless you want to pay nearly $100, can I use the Oxford Children’s Ancient History?? Does anyone know the differences? Thanks!
chadandangelaParticipantDon’t know how long this will last before they sell out. But I saw right now you can get it for $24.95 at –

memomo7Participantthanks for the tip, chadandangela! I just ordered it, so we’ll see what happens.
donnarolleMemberThanks for the tip, chadandangela!!! I just ordered it too. I was looking at the same delimma! I was just in a used book store today thinking maybe I would find it without any finds. But this is great! 🙂 thanks again
teachme2learnParticipantI just found it at amazon.ca and ordered it. It came to about $31 with shipping. I don’t usually spend so much on a book. I hope it’s worth it.
donnarolleMemberWell, I was just notified from the first link that they are sold out now and the book it out of print. I thought I saw it at Amazon for $85. I will have to look back there again!
suzukimomParticipantNote that http://www.amazon.ca is different from http://www.amazon.com (the .ca is the Canadian version.) So the prices could very easily be different. There isn’t much difference in Canadian / US money right now – but make sure you check the shipping if you order from amazon.ca to the states (just like I have to check the shipping carefully ordering from amazon.com)
donnarolleMemberthanks suzukimom for that information. I didn’t even notice there was a difference. I better start working on my attention character trait!!! 🙂
suzukimomParticipantOh, another thought ordering from another country…. if buying in a different country’s currency, your credit card might put on an extra charge by the credit card company (probably a lot less than the difference in prices being mentioned here though!
And although Amazon seems to estimate duty and include that, keep in mind ordering from other sites from other countries that there might be duties and taxes to pay….
It can still be a great way to go though!
paminozMemberI have the Oxford Children’s Ancient History right here and,as far as I can tell from Amazon’s look inside feature, it is identical, page numbers and all. I suspect one is the English version and one the US. I’m in Australia and this often happens.
Pam
memomo7Participantthank you, Pam, for answering my original question. 🙂
all this bother for one book…funny, huh?
Titus245MamaParticipantThanks, Pam!
I was able to get a very inexpensive copy of Oxford Children’s Ancient History on Amazon this morning. There are still a few more copies left, and then, it looks like these will be gone, too. I hope a couple of you CM mamas can get a hold of them!
Blessings,
Tiana
holyoakhsParticipantAre you familiar with E.H. Gombrich’s A Little History of The World? Not sure if this could be a good replacement for the Oxford book.
proudmommy24MemberHello ladies,
I, too, am interested in finding this book but the cheapest I can find is $90 (and it’s used!!!) on Amazon.com. Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrea
MeganParticipantLadies, I’m kind of afraid to post this, because I’m skeptical that it’s really available…but I did see it here, and I thought I’d share just in case…

$24.95 – It says it’s out of print, yet you can put it in the cart…???
Worth a try, maybe…
