We have read Pagoo and would love to visit a beach this summer that has tide pools and lots of rocky areas and nature, not just sand and water.  We live in the midwest so I  have no idea where to begin looking for a location like this?

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Lover’s Point in Monterey, CA. My cousins and I would collect hermit crabs there when we were kids (I grew up in the next town over).  There’s also a looong walking/biking trail along the coast if you’re interested. 🙂 Of course there’s also the aquarium but it’s pricey (about $37 per adult) and I think the beaches are just as nice. Save your money and drive north a bit to Moss Landing and eat at Phil’s! 🙂

If you’re coming to Southern CA, there are areas of Corona del Mar beach that are great for tidepools, as well as the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. It’s not as big as the Monterey Bay Aquarium mentioned above (which is fantastic!), but it’s a wonderful place to visit.  In some places here, you can even have tidepool tours or other guided experiences that may be helpful in finding just what you’re looking for.
