We seem to be going slow. My ds, just turned 7, is working on memorizing his +2 facts. He gets the word problems pretty quickly but when we drill he’s slow. Do I move forward and continue drill or stay here until he gets them? This part of Ray’s seems a little boring. How did anyone else do the lessons for learning math facts? Thanks.

We have been using Ray’s for my 7yo ds this year too. We started with lots of beans, cars, buttons, etc. Are you using manipulatives in the early stages? We also have added in a lot of variety in between Ray’s lessons. For example, we’ve done a Ray’s lesson one day, then addition/subtraction using coins the next day, then another Ray’s lesson, and then measuring something around the house with rulers or using measuring with baking something, then flashcards the next day. I found the variety helped keep things fun, even if we were really practicing the same facts over and over each day.
