My 13 yr old, who used to really struggle with spelling, has taken a big leap in her spelling ability it seems.  I think that vision therapy played a big role in this.  She has been on level one for the past several years, and this year even level three seems too easy for her.  what should I do?

If your child already knows how to spell all the words in a passage, do you just focus on the punctuation?

    Thanks!

Nope, skip ahead and find the first passage that has about 3 words she can’t spell, pick up there.  (That is what I would do.)

Ok!  What happens after level 5 is finished? Any thoughts?

I would think after level 5 is completed, just keeping a common book would be plenty.  Level 5 is very advanced…I think I’d really struggle with it!

Yes, I looked at level 4 and tested her on the sample passages and she does not know 1-3 words per passage so I guess we will start there this year.  This is SO very strange because she has struggled pretty badly with spelling for so long.  You’re right Holly level 5 does look pretty difficult!!  I couldn’t do past level 3!

We’ve not reached that stage.  I probably would assume a teen who could finish all 5 levels could spell well enough that they don’t need a spelling program anymore.  Interested to hear Sonya’s or others’ thoughts.

I would agree, Tristan. And hopefully, by the time the student has done dictation through Book 5, the habit will be set up to look at how words are spelled as he reads, which will set him up for life.

I left some other thoughts on the parallel discussion.
