Hi,
I have been wanting to purchase this ebook of volume 1 but can’t find any samples of the material. My daughter is in first grade and will turn 7 this month. I would like something that can be reused. I have looked at Language Lessons which also looks nice but I can’t reuse it for my youngest daughter later.
Can a first grader use this? My daughter is currently using CLE LA 1 which is ok but…it’s not gentle. I may only use it three days a week. I have Sonlight LA 2 but I would have to tweak it so much I wonder if it is worth it.
Thanks,
Penny
Scherger5ParticipantI think she could use it without problem. You can see samples here:

JoytoreadParticipantSonya,
This is so good to hear. I had started to try all the exercises with my son but found we would be taking so long because he is only able to do 3-4 words with his best printing. I thought we would never get through this gentle grammar. So now I have been just having him tell me what his sentence is suppose to say and to answer the questions. My son is 7 and he really likes English for the Thoughtful Child.

LindseyDParticipantI have thought about buying this book for ds6 to start. I already own Simply Grammar, but I know formal grammar instruction isn’t supposed to begin until 9 or 10. Would English For The Thoughtful Child be a good introduction to Simply Grammar? Or would I be repeating to use them both?
Thanks,
Lindsey
Sonya ShaferModeratorSimply Grammar focuses on parts of speech. I don’t feel that it repeats much of EFTTC at all.
ChantelleParticipantWhat is the difference between the Volume 1 and Volume 2 of English for the Thoughtful Child? is Volume 2 more difficult so you would use 1 then 2? or is it just different in it’s approach?
JoytoreadParticipantI just got my EFTTC2 for my next year and I can see that you would want to start with the first one first. For example they talk about what a sentence is in vol. 1 and then in vol. 2 review but not the same detail as the first one. I see the first one having more beginning stuff that would be more needed first. There is new stuff in vol. 2 though too. I would say that the approach is the same in style of teaching though. I do not require my son to do all the written work. He would be overwhelmed if I did that. I hope this helps.
Kim.
