I really like the easy style of LL by Queens. I can have to boys do 1 or 3 of these short lessons and it’s not a problem.

My question is this: Will it be enough? Like I said I’ve been looking around and seem to keep coming back to Queens for the simpleness of it for my boys and they seem to like it and feel like they got a lot accomplished when done.

But I look at these other options and they do more (which is not always better) more examples, more lengthy lessons, more diagraming, more formal writing at age level 10yrs and wondering if those of you who have used LL for the upper ages can calm me and saying that “It will be enough”. Because you’ve seen the other books and know?!>

I want to be sure my boys can take notes good, can write a good sentence, and know parts of speach (all things I can’t do well or at all). That they could write a good short story and will be ready for college if they choose.

Ok. Guess I’m way to nervous on this subject cause I will not be able to help them I don’t have a clue on this subject and want to give them the best I can for the money I can afford. Thanks for the advice and support in advance.

    ……………………………

Lengthy lessons, diagramming, and formal writing at age 10 is NOT CM…so to use those at this age would defeat your whole purpose. 😉

I have Queens books for: Little Ones, Very Young, Elementary Child, and Secondary Child. Personally, I don’t like them. However, I realize that many moms do.

Frankly we already to poetry, picture study, dictation, copywork, etc…so to us they are just ‘busy work’ and nothing else. The books, for my children, are difficult to write in as there is not enough room and the font in our opinion is simply awful.

Aside from my own personal issues with them, however, I do think the upper grades (Secondary child) are the best in the series and will really help a child with creative writing! 🙂 Those are the only ones *I* personally can recommend. I do not find them to be sequential enough, organized very well, or have enough review of topics to make it worth *my* time.

    Misty,

I know where you are coming from. I want my children to learn diagramming so I will most likely use AG with my 7th grader along with LLSC but will just use LLEC until then.

I think you might also look at your children gifts. Not all children need lots of grammar as they are not going to pursue an area that they need lots of grammar. Once they are older if they show a gift and you feel you need to fill something in you can do it then but many times I have seen by that time the child has their own desires to dig into and learn more about the areas that interest them.

Also, ask your husband. He can give you an opinion that is not so overwhelmed with all the choices.

Shanna – so funny you mentioned that about looking at each child. Cause I was just doing that last night! I am heading in the same direction you are with LLSC and then adding AG when older. I just really like LLSC and being the kids like it and are learning why am I so worried?? LOL

but that’s what I do sometimes. thanks everyone
