I’m looking for a good quality baby doll for my three-year- old.  I’ve looked at the Bitty Baby sold by American Girl but was wondering if any one had other suggestions.

Have you looked at Corolle Dolls?

With my 3 girls, Bitty Babies have really held up! And if you live close enough to one of their stores, they will clean them ( spa day 🙂 and they look brand new. We love ours!

The only other one I have considered is the babies that look like those from the Eloise Wilkins books. Not sure of how well they can withstand “loving play” though. But they look very real and cute.

Might sound strange, but I try to look at toys with the end in sight.  Where will this toy be some day?  we always try to stick to toys that are classics and will stand the test of time.

When my dd was tiny I did alot of research on what kind of dolls to purchase.  I narrowed it to American Girl and Corolle, and eventually decided to go AG for a few reasons.  Reason one: Their resale value is alot better.  If my daughter wishes to keep them forever, great, but if not, they will usually resale closer to their original price than Corolle.  Reason two:  The AG product line tends to have alot of accessories sold by other stores such as Target, Michaels, Ebay, etc.  This saves money when you want extra accessories to go with dolls.

I also know first hand that if you ever have damage done to the doll AG has really great customer service.  We have a Samantha doll that is over 20 years old.  One day her leg came loose and was hanging by the strings.  (My dd had tried to pull her out of a baby bed and the foot got caught).  I sent it to their doll hospital along with the payment to repair it.  They sent the doll back cleaned, hair done, hospital gown and bracelet, get well baloon, oh and a letter saying they were not going to charge me because the issue was their fault.  How it was their fault that a leg came off a 20 year old doll I’ll never know!!!

I guess you could say that these are the reasons I am sold on AG.

Thank you for your suggestions.  The Corolle dolls are so cute.  I saw that most of them have a vanilla scent.  Is this a very strong scent?  We generally stay away from scented things for health reasons.

    Other suggestions are welcome too.

If your DD wants to have her baby doll cleaned and restored she can pass it to her own children. I went with a used AG doll of craigslist for $16. I can still send her in for anything I ever need.
