I am looking for quality art supplies and would love product recommendations. Here are I few items I want:

quality sketch and watercolor paper, watercolors (both paint and pencils), colored pencils.  Any other items that you may use regularly please add to the list.

    Thanks,

    Amy

If you use colored pencils, I highly recommend getting:

    Eraser
Smudge stick (inexpensive item, used for blending)
Convenient way to carry the items outdoors

Just one more little item that I think is really worth getting, but most people don’t know about….  go to a place with drafting supplies, and pick up an erasing shield.  This is a little metal plate with various shaped holes in it.  You can place it so that what you want to be erased is in a hole – but not the line touching the line you want to erase.  So you can erase a line without erasing another part of your picture!

    (obviously only for pencil drawings!)

Also, get a good quality white eraser, not those pink icky ones! – if you can get a drafting eraser, that would be the best!

I agree with the colored pencils.  However, colored pencils aren’t all alike.  We only use the Prismacolor ones.  Wait for a 40% coupon from Michaels or Hobby Lobby and them buy them.

Prismacolor pencils are wonderfui – I agree with Pollysoup – the thing I love is the way they lay color on a page and how blendable they are.  I also love the fact that as each pencil wears out you can just go buy and replace the one you need.  It is an expense at first, but well worth the money. My daughter does a lot of art and loves them,  I also recommend white erasers as they don’t leave marks on the page, or the grey squdgy ones, can’t remember what they are called.  My daughter loves charcoal as well, they are messy, but she loves the look of it on paper. I would always try and buy best quality art supplies, even if it takes a while to gather them – because art is so special and it is a shame if a child does a wonderful piece of work that is not as good as it could be because of substandard supplies.
