If you haven’t gotten an email from Greg landry a few days ago, you may not know that he expressed problems. As of today, teachers are expressing that they have left and that Landry has closed. DOn’t know if they are going to restructure. This is breaking info and I will refer you to FB.

Also, if any of your children have or are taking a class or have generics there, I recommend you go NOW to save/print out everything you can:

    Syllabi and Grades

    Ledgers (your credits transferred info)

Teacher contact info (some of them have their phone numbers)

    Assignments

    Assessments

    Transcripts

    Student Info

    Dashboard

    Credit Card info

    Account info

I saved everything I could find.

FB Page created by Chemistry teacher:

Also, at WTM, an ongoing post called: X – post Landry Academy Financial Problems?

Also, this info from Veritas and the individual teachers are trying to find a way to continue some classes.

From Chris Leinleng(Chem teacher): In an effort to make sure families know all their options, I am pasting here information from an email received, sent by Greg Landry, which contains an invitation from Marlin Detweiler at Veritas Press. I’m guessing (hoping) families will receive a similar email today.==============As you may know, Veritas Press is a curriculum provider and, like Landry Academy, offers online course to Christian schools and homeschool families. You can learn more about us at http://www.VeritasPress.com.

In an effort to help families, we have come up with a plan to offer our classes to students who are currently enrolled in classes at Landry Academy. It is an effort to help these families as best we can. The opportunity includes reduced rates on second semester classes for this school year and using already purchased generic credits from Landry toward the 2017 – 2018 school year classes at Veritas.==============There is more in the letter regarding teachers, so I have truncated that portion.

From X-Post mentioned above. Poster’s email she received. I haven’t gotten it yet. But I thought this would be helpful:

Dear Landry Academy Family,(I’m sorry if you receive this more than once) As I mentioned in my last email message earlier this week, we have been struggling to keep Landry Academy alive. After exploring many options that would potentially allow us to keep our doors open, we have reached the point of no longer being able to operate. This is not how we envisioned our dream of Landry Academy ending. It is with much sadness that we close the doors of Landry Academy. We know this places you in a difficult position – we’re very sorry.

I have been working hard on a solution that I hope you will carefully consider. I have arranged for Veritas Press to work with you directly on special arrangements and pricing for both the spring semester and for the 2017-2018 school year. They have been very understanding of this situation and are willing to give you some credit for our online classes and generic semesters for which you are registered. If you are registered for full year 2016-17 online classes, one semester spring 2017 online classes,or generic online class semesters, we’ll send you a separate email message today with details of the arrangement we’ve made with Veritas Press online classes.

It will take some time for us to go through student and family accounts for intensives, trips, classes, etc. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are not able to issue refunds right now. It will also take time for us to be able to process transcript requests, etc.

We are very grateful for you – families who have loved, supported, and encouraged us for years. We know so many of you personally and many of you are like family to us. Thank you for your continued support, patience, and prayers as we work through the details of closing Landry Academy. Greg

    From Chris Leingeng FB:

I’m so touched by the outpouring of support by the online home-school community. We have received offers by both “LIVE Online Math” (liveonlinemath.com) and “The Potter’s School” (pottersschool.org) to use their systems for nominal fees so that we can still teach our spring classes.Of course, Greg Landry has written about Veritas (www.VeritasPress.com) as well.Teachers are busy considering these and other options.I’m hoping to connect with my students/families about my plan soon.

    and:

Of course, members of our own faculty have gone on to create their own systems so they can continue to teach.Check out Excelsior Classes (excelsiorclasses.com) and Big River Academy (http://www.bigriveracademy.com).

Apparently the teachers can’t get their lists of students and their emails are shut down; so if you currently have a class and have been receiving emails from a personal email, great. Otherwise, I suggest getting a snapshot of their phone numbers or find them on FB if you don’t hear from them in the next couple of days.

This is very frustrating and disappointing.  We’ve enjoyed Landry courses for years, but whatever the specifics, it wasn’t handled with transparency or good communication. I’m saddened for all involved – teachers and parents.  I’m left scrambling for replacement courses for spring term and I’m out a big chunk of money paid to future classes, too. Many, many families are in this boat with no recourse and without the means to sustain such a financial loss.

Yes, it’s awful. I’m trying to handle three classes and it’s a headache; those with thousands of dollars and years of classes…I can’t imagine. I’ve found my dd’s pre-chem and my son’s logic teachers; possibly have an art replacement; waiting for my son’s 2nd semester Latin to chime in. I can’t afford too much additional costs, though.

    What a mess…

Here are the two FB pages associated:

Started for former Landry teachers to advertise themselves and for parents to find teachers:

I haven’t kept up with emails over the holiday – thank you for posting. Admittedly, I am certainly not feeling very gracious at the moment about the money personally lost on this.

The links I gave will help you in finding replacements; some free, some massively discounted, some waving registration fees and slashing the cost, etc. My dd’s Pre-Chem is being so great. He’s only charging $100 for the whole semester if you were already signed up. I’d already bought her books.

The teachers are starting to chime into the Jeremiah 17: 8 FB page linked above, too.

Schoolhouseteachers (Old Schoolhouse) is 9.95 mth right now and I might have my dd use their course(s) with a previous Landry art instructor. Potters School, even with a discount, may have to wait until fall semester.

Schoolhouseteachers  have some other subjects, too.

I just recommend going through the 2nd semester link to WTM Forum and the Jeremiah FB page to start.

My son’s poor Latin teacher couldn’t access anything. I had saved everything I could think of and sent it to her, so maybe that will help. This is very time consuming and distracting me from other things!

Though, I only have three classes to replace and one lost generic, so my complaints are minuscule comparatively.

    I hope ya’ll find what you need…
