READERS: A Primary Reader by E.L.Smythe vs. Reading Literature series, Treadwell Readers (by Free and Treadwell)

Hi! My daughter (6y/o) started with Free and Treadwell’s Reading Literature series. We started with the first volume (The Primary Reader) and are now two-thirds done with the second volume (The First Reader). I was wondering if I should move her next to the third volume in the series (The Second Reader) or if we may try A Primary Reader by E.L.Smythe (I got a copy from the public domain). I’ve been looking for reviews from the internet for the one by Smythe but I can’t find much “good” reviews… most of the reviews say that the stories were badly written but they might be reviewing from a wrong perspective of the book or reviewing the way it was reproduced instead of what the book is actually supposed to do.

Anyone here tried both and can give me any insight to which book we should try next? Thanks!
