    Shanna,

Thank you so much for your advice. I appreciate it. It helps to know that there are others who are personally using it and planning to use it. I will call them to get more detailed info. You’ve been a help!

    Rachel,

Your post has really been weighing on me. Especially the part about relying on the Lord who is the real insurer of our lives. I have such a hard time with this. I really don’t know why because generally, I am a positive person. But I keep thinking, what if we quit insurance and sign up with one of these ministries and something terrible happens. We have been so blessed with virtually perfect health from our two girls and basically good health of my DH and myself, that I almost feel like I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. I guess you could add that to your prayers! I need to be more trusting of God’s faithfulness to me and my family and know that in whatever event, He will take care of us!

Thank you all for your kind words, thoughtful advice, and prayers. You were the first I came to for prayer and advice! I will keep you posted on our decisions.

    Faith 🙂

If you are unsure of any of these ministries for health care, then do a google search and see if any of them have problems or anything. I do that with things when I am concerned about something. I google and read all the reviews to see if there is much negativity. It is my understanding (from a neighbor we used to have) that you bill other people in the ministry for your costs and they in turn send the checks to you and then when they have bills they bill you – she said it worked ok, but some had not paid and then it got complicated. I wish I could remember the ministry she was dealing with, but I cannot at the moment. Anyway I would think that with any of these things you need to do the research before signing on the dotted line. I wish you the best of luck, it is such a big deal healthcare these days – but being from England I have to say you don’t want the system that we have over there, my mum is dead because of it! Faith,

How is your family doing? Praying all is well! 🙂

We, too, are now looking into alternative healthcare.  I thought I’d share the Samaritan Ministries link with you incase you’re still interested. There is a great video to watch that’ll give you lots of info

    Rachel,

We are seriously considering Samaritan but I noticed that you linked other options as well. Do you know the differences between these and why or why not your family would consider one over the other? Thanks for sharing any thoughts; this may help in our decision.

I just wanted to say that I’m new here, but we use Samaritan’s and we love it.  Our doctor has used it for a very long time and he encourages his patients to use it.  All of my extended family has now joined and we do know people that have had to use it and been really pleased.  Call for a free info. pack.

Thanks so much lovinmomma. We did recieve the info pack and have been waiting to get references. Can I ask you a question? Have you or someone you know ever had a need that was published and met? How was your experience with this? One of the things that moves my dh and I, is the fact that we get to send our monthly share to somebody who has a real need and not just an insurance company thats out to make a profit. Thanks again for sharing.

We have never had a need met, but we have good friends that used it twice years ago.  Dave Ramsey (if you know who he is) also suggests sharing ministries like SM.  My doctor had a patient that had cancer (can’t remember what type) and they covered $100,000 of it.  I do know that there was talk about the share amount going up slightly in the near future for everyone, because the needs are being prorated due to a large amount of needs.  We have also had discounted share amounts, because of the needs being drastically low for a few months in a row.  I have only heard positive things from the people that I know who have had to use it.  You should have a doctor that is willing to work with you while you wait for people’s shares to get to your home, though.

I thought I would jump in on this topic since we just signed up for Samaritan’s Ministries last month.  My hubby is self-employed and after a BIG move last year across the country (NC to CA), we realized that private insurance was not an option for us (too expensive, coverage for procedures that we don’t spirtually support, etc).  While reading a conservative Christian magazine, I saw an ad for Samaritan’s Ministries.  My hubby called and requested information and upon receiving and praying over it, we knew it was the right path for us.

Just yesterday, we received our first “statement” that lists a need for a couple in another state.  It literally brought tears to my eyes as I read over the requests and realized how fortunate and healthy my family has been.  It also makes us extremely happy to know that our money is going DIRECTLY to someone in need (as we feel God intended) and not to a company that plays on our insecurities as humans with illnesses, injuries or disabilities.  We also feel it is a real-life, living example to our children as well.

I cannot offer any advice on publishing needs as we just joined and thus far are in good health.  🙂  We are excited to be a part of something that is making a difference — for the good!

    Heather,

I’m excited about all the interest in this creative way of “doing health insurance”!  Although we haven’t had to sign up  yet, I’m pretty certain that all these ministries operate on the same principle so I would just see which one fits your pocketbook or ask God to show you which one your family needs to be part of.  Hopefully no one here will need major medical coverage, but in any case it is wonderful to “bear one another’s burdens”!  Please let us know your experience with whichever one you decide.

So glad this came up again.  Before I was so busy I didn’t have time to look into this.  But I am calling Samaritan Ministries right now.  We could really do this.  We also are paying 900 a month in health insurance and we DO not go to the dr unless I’m pregnant.  So the extra 550 a month we’d save could help us pay off our car a lot faster and in the winter months actually not stress about Christmas and all our birthdays (which is every month Aug-Feb some doubling up).

Also, I would love to know my money is going to REALLY help “someone” not just to the pot for people doing things (as someone said) that we dont agree with.  I am going to get this DVD and we are defenitaly going to pray over this.  We have some time to do that as right now (praise the Lord) my dh is working but come winter that usually changes and things ssslllllooooowwwwww down a lot.

Thanks agian for bringing this up.  And I am still praying for all those in this situation who need a better plan. Blessings Misty
