Linda, I’ve finally been able to read this post and though I don’t have any suggestions, we’re praying for your daughter and your family. I’m so sorry that you have to go through this…God is near.
Hi Betty, Heather – thanks for the prayers, my daugter does have a functional rather than medical issue now, the surgery may have aggravated it. We know she is not a celiac or gluten intolerant and we are a family that have always taken probiotics, so that is not the problem. We do use chamomile tea, and I appreciate the suggestion for the other tea, we will try that. It is the Zofran tablet that caused the tremors, so we cannot be on any drugs like that – it is a very rare side effect of that drug, but can happen and has happened with my daughter – all the other nausea meds can cause the same problem, so she is now unable to take them. We are using manuka honey from New Zealand to try and keep her throat from getting sore from the vomiting, as when that makes her throat raw, she cannot eat at all. I just am living minute by minute hopting today will be better – but each day she gets a bit weaker. I pray they don’t have to hospitalise her again, as they just rehydrate her, send her home, and then off we go again until she is weak again and back in the hospital – it is awful. So all your prayers, thoughts and ideas are very welcome. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
We will continue to pray for you daughter Linda. Praying for strength, healing and encouragement. My son’s stomach empties very slowly, so we have to try and limit how much he eats at one time. Which is hard because he is always hungry. If he eats too much at a time then it just sits in his stomach and doesn’t really digest, which causes the stomach upset/digestive issues. We use the flora (both pre and pro biotics) to help with his digestion also. Calcium and magnesium can both be soothing to the stomach (I have a chewable that is a combination of the two that he takes when his stomach is sour).
I know it’s extreme, but have the doctors considered with your daughter giving her a gastric feeding tube at all? Temporary to help with her gaining weight? They have the G tube which can also be inserted in the jejunum or duodenum if the stomach is an issue. Meaning if the stomach cannot tolerate food for whatever reason. It was something we had considered with my son when he was an infant because of how severe his reflux was, and the emptying issues of his stomach. We ended up not doing it. Again, I’m not aware of all of your daughter’s stomach problems.. so that may not even be something to consider. But I thought I would throw it out there.
Again, we are praying for her strength and her spirit. For comfort for all of you!
I am sure that if this problem goes on long enough, then they may well have to consider that – however any tube cannot go in the nose or throat as she is extremely phobic about her neck and throat, so that would cause huge anxiety. Anything that adds to her stomach tension is not an option right now – she had an endoscopy which made the situation much worse, because it really caused her phobia to come to the forefront – she is having counseling for the phobia, but the stomach issue is something else altogether – we too are now trying very small amounts and I have liquid calc/magnesium for her along with a multi. The calories are the biggest problem, they have told us she needs 1500 calories a day to maintain the weight she has, 2000 calories to gain a pound a week – even 1500 calories is too much for her right now – but I am trying everything I can think of to take things a day at a time and keep her as stress free as possible, which is hard with the tremors and vomiting – she is scared and I understand that. This morning we have diluted a high calorie drink with water, to make it less thick and we hope that with small sips over the next hour or so, she will keep it down, then perhaps another one later – if she could have four a day it would be the right calories to maintain, and then maybe she will be able to add some little bits of solid food. Keep the prayers coming and wish us luck with this. Thanks – bless you all.
The G tube actually goes through the abdomen. Or I should say it comes out through the abdomen. It’s put in through the an endoscopic procedure that takes about 20 minutes or so (the patient is under anethesia). It’s usually in for 6 months at a time. Then she’s not having to eat food herself, although that could and should still be encouraged as she’s able. But she would be received the nutrition that she needs.
It’s used with children that have severe gastric problems and food aversions. Sounds like maybe this would be a possibility for your daughter. It is extreme again, but she truly needs the nutrition and to be able to heal. Both physically and mentally from all she is going through.
If you would like more information on it just let me know and I would be more than willing to pass it on. I don’t want to sound pushy though. Feel free to IM me.
I don’t know if your daughter has a condition that medical doctors cannot figure out or not. But when that happened to me, I tried a Meridian Stress Assessment test. My chiropractor who is also a naturopath did it for me. It’s non invasive and tests your body’s responses to things and the condition of your organs and systems.
I think it’s based on accu-pressure points; the meridians or nerve endings under your skin (I think). Some people don’t believe in it. I didn’t for a few years, but when I had exhausted all my other options, I went for it.
It really has helped us and others we’ve known. If you would like more info, let me know. You can find people in your area that do the tests.
Our prayers are with you; I admire your ability to hold on faithful.
Angela please send me the information, I am open to all things. We actually see an osteopath who is a naturopath and he is being very helpful. Acupuncture to this point has not helped, but I am interested in what you talk about. I actually don’t think the doctor’s know what it is, but anxiety certainly may play a role, but she is unable to take any medications because of the side effects. All of the meds for anxiety and anti depressants cause tremors some permanent in some cases, and they cannot risk that as she already has the bad tremors from the Zofran. Her doctors know she is not depressed or anxious in general but she is phobic and has post traumatic stress from her last endoscopy. Holding onto my faith is very hard sometimes, but I go back to other times when things were really bad for us like Hurricane Katrina, and I remember His faithfulness to us then and there have been many other times like that. Consequently, I just hang on even though sometimes it would be easier to let go. Linda
I don’t know your location but we went through something similar and my son received so much healing through beinhealth.com They have free conferences around the country if you can’t make it to Georgia.
The machine is called Bio Meridian. You can call this phone number to find out if there is someone in your area that can test your daughter: 1-888-224-2337. I hope that isn’t advertising-I know we’re not supposed to. You can look at the website and I think it tells about the testing; I’m not sure. Here is it. Bio Meridian
