    Hi guys,

I spent a lot of time after my kids went to bed reading the articles here and on intentional parenting.  WOW!  My kids do watch “educational” TV, but I never realized what it would actually do to their attention spans or thought about it not being the best for them.  Today I am streaming classical music on the computer (our TV) and going on a TV fast.  My girls are 5.5 and 3, so they are begging for Dora or Caillou right now.  Please keep us in your prayers for my steadfastness and their hearts during this transition time!  By the way, we went of family bike rides the last two nights at sunset ~ amazing!  I am so glad I found this place.  Thank you, Ladies.

Prayers are with you – when our daughters were small we were overseas and thought TV would be a waste of time and expense as it was all in a foreign language and we were so busy, that we would never have watched it.  I have to say it was the best thing, because even now at 17 years old, they could care less about TV, even though we now have one, and they only ever watch news and the odd documentary.  So you are definitely doing the right thing in limiting the use of the banal box.  Not having tv meant there was time for music, games, outdoor things and talking and reading.  It also taught them to learn to entertain themselves and not demand to be entertained, that was the biggest blessing of all.  We had lots of one on one time, but then when mummy had things to do, they were both able to entertain themselves and play together – they became extremely imaginative.   So good luck and stick with it.  Blessings, Linda

My kids are on a tv fast as well.  They did not watch a lot of it, but what they were watching was damaging their attitudes drastically!  It’s a little tough at times because I admit that I used it as a babysitter more than I’d like to admit.  But I’m hoping that it will help remove the influence of snotty attitudes, disrespect, and teasing.  I’ll keep you in my prayers if you will do the same for me and my family!

Thanks, Linda!  We don’t have cable, standard TV or anything like that, but I can stream Netflix; and everything is on Netflix!  It’s really easy to give in and have 30 minutes of *me* time; but, like you said, they use their imagination more if you let them have the time to explore themselves.  After the first hour or so, they stopped asking.  We had to wait until about 7pm to bicycle to the park for them to play, and it was still 96 outside then!  Anyway, thanks for the prayer, I think it will get easier the more I say no and stick with it.

Faith ~ I will keep you in my prayers, too!
