Plutarch is one subject that I am completely ignorant of and just beginning to look into. I admit, too, that I’ve not looked into Charlotte’s original volumes regarding this subject at this point. You ladies are always so full of wisdom and ready to share that I thought I’d check here first. I guess my brain is too tired to add extra hard work right now and I’m taking the easy way.Wink

I’m planning for next school year (starting in July) when I’ll have a 4th grader, a 1st grader, a 3 year old and a baby. Questions abound in my head…

    • I know there are guides on AO and translations available online, but I gather that these are for older kids middle to high school age. Is this correct?

    • Should one pick 1 Life per year, per term? Beginning at what age?

    • Should I get one for kids? Which one?

    • Can I do this as a family study or does it need to be individual?

    • How do I schedule it, if I do it? Once per week for 12 full weeks, or would that apply only to the full translations and not the children’s versions?

Any wisdom and guidance is much appreciated. I’m back to my regularly scheduled planning now.Smile

Christie, with the ages of your kids, I wouldn’t try Plutarch.  I wouldn’t mess with it until at least 4th (when AO recommends starting) to 6th grade.  I think the “children’s versions” are dumb.  Wait until your kids are old enough for the real thing.  Starting off with a life that there is an AO guide for is easiest.  Then I just ordered a couple volumes and . . . we just read them.  🙂  The prose is difficult but it gets easier as you gain experience.  Yours are 9 and 6?  I would wait.  My 9yo still doesn’t sit in on our Plutarch readings–he draws then.

We used Putarch in 8th and 9th, I saw no reason to do it earlier, we also found AO helpful and did not use the children’s version.  Plutarch is so rich, why dumb it down, wait until the children are old enough to take it in.  We may have waited longer to start, but the girls found it really interesting when we did.  Blessings.  Linda

And I believe on Ambleside many like to use the Anne White Study guides.  I believe you can download them for free.  I haven’t started yet, so sorry I don’t have a link!   :)Gina
