    Hello ladies –

I have a rising first grade boy, and have haphazardly done some CM style lessons with him – word building, finding sight words, phonics.  I need help deciding how best to help him read.  My issues:

-I already have several reading things – OPGTR (which can be tedious), BOB books (all of them), Usborne’s Very First Reading, random beginning readers from Costco, and ideas about creating my “own” CM style reading program.

-I am intrigued by Delightful Reading – that it’s already laid out for me, as a pick up and go (in many ways) program with non-twaddly literature, and I don’t have to always remember what’s next, or what I might be leaving out.

-My husband has expressed interest in teaching reading to Zeke, and I don’t think he wants to do fussy things, but he’s very willing to try new methods, as long as I show him what to do.

All that said: I think I want Delightful Reading, but feel that I “should” use the stuff I already have, even though I don’t love it.

    What would you do?

    Thanks so much,

    Katrina

Don’t have an answer for you as I approach reading differently; however, I wanted to wave a hello from another Alaskan.

I understand. I think we have several also.  Love Bob Books the best for my daughter. Has he read all of them?

Sons did better on some “Hooked on Phonics”  I had the “Ace” Curriculm and they were bored.  Daughter didn’t seem to get it so “Bob” it was for her. We also have a Phonics Library and  a few other beginner reading books. Some worked, some, not so well.

I plan on selling them as soon as my daughter is reading. I am not sure exactly what I will be having her read in her spare time. 🙂 At least she is starting to read. If you are having upcoming younger children I would probably hang on to them. You never know what might spark their interest. If not you could always sell what you found you really don’t like. If all else fails you can donate it to the Library and use it when you want to. 🙂  Or see if you can get it from the Library Loan. Then you will know if you should get rid of it. They will have your back if plan “A” fails. 🙂

Blessings!   Wanting the rest of your Bob Books! 🙂  Tehe he
