This year has been wonderful due to all the planning suggestions I’ve gleaned from the SCM blogs, forum posts, and videos. Thanks so much!!!! I do have a question about the PDF that would come with the Planning guide/DVD set. Is it something that I fill in on the computer prior to printing, or would it be filled in by hand after printing? I’m wanting to get next year typed up, but the paper version I’ve been using that compares to the CMO is rather time consuming. Would these PYCMEd forms help? Or, is it more likely that printing from the CMO after spending lots of time entering resources is actually my answer? We are hoping to have Internet at home by June when my iPhone contract ends. I’d also like speed suggestions to avoid CMO use issues if that is still a concern.

    Thanks for advice,

You can fill out the forms before you print them. It’s in PDF format so you can only fill in the forms you can not edit or change them. I found that I entered them into Excel and manipulated it to fit my style and resources and such. It was pretty straight forward.

Ok. I’m not a computer person. Does that mean you opened the PDF in Excel, or did you recreate something similar in Excel? I’ve done a few things in Excel without any pleasing results. Parts of words do not appear, etc.

    Becca,

I am not very techy so someone may have to correct what I am saying ;), but here are some options I have used:

You can print it blank and fill it in with pencil.

You also may fill it in and print it (and save it to your computer with your info in it).  What godselect meant was that you cannot change the format of the forms – only what you have entered.

You do not open it in Excel. I think she created another version of the forms in Excel and tweaked them to fit her better.

Thank you Sheraz, you are correct!! I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear Tailormade 🙂

Thanks Ladies! I’m gathering Texas History resources for the fall and want to start getting them organized.

But….would the reports feature in the CMO actually be more helpful to me? I already have a twelve year (or less, depending on age) plan for each child. I have most of my resources chosen for the year for each of them and for the family. I’ve just been putting off typing up these lists and charts. Suggestions from CMO users, please. We should know during the early part of next week whether we’ll be able to get a signal for Internet. That will determine whether, or not. Those that use CMO, do you find the reports to be helpful for the this? Do you have to use either the planning charts, or make your own?

    Becca,

Since I use the CMO, I love the reports that print out at the end of the year for my portfolios. But I can’t get my print-outs unless I plan the schedule and put it in the CMO. The reports are only the record of what you have entered from your plan and and then ACTUALLY accomplished.

So, to an extent, I do use these forms if only to corral my list of books per person. Then I sit down like I do with my paper planner and schedule out our weekly topics. I don’t always plan to the week or the day since life happens and we miss a day or two there (like the last two weeks, my dd has had full blown pneumonia again, so we cut back to what she could handle). Based on that I enter my resources in the CMO for each person, making sure that I schedule the book chapters in the right order as I go. That way the topics at least stay in the order I planned. Mostly, though, we are pretty much “go in order of the book, so pick up where we left off” people.

Another thing I have noticed about me personally is that I have read the book, made my plan, and consult it each year. Since I have read the book and have planned several years, some of these steps become more mental to me so I don’t necessarily write all of it down. That may or may not be good. 😉

You’ve been doing this planning thing a long time, and it may be easier for you to continue as you have for planning (not necessarily using these forms), then just add your planned info to CMO, which will then do the tracking.

    Does this make any sense?

Yes. Makes sense. I’m hoping I’m not ahead of myself with planning on using Internet. We should know tomorrow or Tuesday whether they will even schedule an appointment. Their software person will be doing a topographic evaluation with Google and his other software to determine whether he thinks a tech should even be sent our way. It will be 2-4 weeks after that before they can get someone to us. Then, it may still fall through if they cannot get a signal to us. We’ve gone through the whole process with another Internet provider two years ago, only to not be able to receive their signal. It’s one of those Lord’s will situations at this point. I’m certainly hoping to ditch my iPhone. Meanwhile, I’m still working on paper. At least I’m accustomed to it. 🙂
