Hi!  I am wanting to use an 8×10 frame on our piano to place the artwork in that we are studying, so that we can see it all the time, as we go about our day.  I am having trouble getting a good printing of the artwork, however.  I have vistited some of the sites recommended on Ambleside, but when I print the art, it always loses something in the translation!  Smile  Is the problem with my printer?  Do any of you know a source for purchasing prints inexpensively?  What do all of you do about this?

Over the years I have bought art calendars after they go on sale in the New Year.  I have found Rembrandt, Monet, even a Raphael and others – I cut them out and use them as the artist study when each comes up on my schedule.  Most bookstores sell them very cheaply after the holidays, and they are nearly always great quality and a good size.  I have also printed them off the web, but like yousay my printer does not do the best job either. When I am desperate I get a large coffee table book from the library and open it to the page I need. there are some wonderful ones out there and most libraries have some on their shelves.  I am sure other prople have other ideas for you.

I’ve never found using prints to be effective for all the reasons you mention. I purchase books, and we study from those.

My printer is not good enough to print a quality picture, either.

I have art books, collected over the years, that we use. I find them rather easily at thrift stores and used book stores, and I don’t have qualms about cutting out images if I want to hang them up, or we simplykeep the book very handy and open it to look at the prints.

I think some people send their downloaded images to a photo shop to print for them.  I wonder if this would give you the quality you’re looking for?

Also, caroline4kids recommended a couple of resources in a thread on another forum.  I was just re-visiting that thread the other day to look at her suggestions.  They are Taschen art portfolios (you can search on amazon or barnes and nobles) and Dover products like this (if you look down the page, there are links for other similar products like 120 Great Paintings, 120 Great Impressionist Paintings, etc.

I need to make some choices soon for us, too.
