Hello Ladies! My mother asked me yesterday if she could buy my 8 year old daughter the Penderwick books for Christmas. I gave her the titles of books I am familiar with and would love to own :), but she is still wanting to know if she can buy the Penderwick’s. I know nothing about them, and I do not have time to check out and preread right now! So – please weigh in – is the Penderwick series twaddle? Does it contain questionable/inappropriate language or subject matter? Thank you for any advice you can give!

    Hi Jenna,

I haven’t read them either, but thought this review might be helpful.

    Hope that helps,

Thank you for the suggestion to check her blog! I have it bookmarked myself, and it didn’t occur to me to check. She actually has a more recent post about the third installment. Sounds like she is very enthusiastic about the first two at least. The third, apparently, injects some middle school romance which the blogger is torn about. Since my daughter is only 8, I think I will choose to stay away from these for awhile. If they do turn out to be truly timeless, then they will be just as wonderful when she is more mature :).

My girls are 14 and 11 and enjoyed them…I was thinking 8 was a little young. I always have a HUGE booklist ready for family that asks…they always buy what they want, not what’s on the list 🙂
