I am looking for a good curriculum to use for PE and Health — preferably from a Christian perspective, and covering a variety of topics including but not limited to nutrition.  I know that Life Pac Health Quest is not CM but it covers most of what I’m looking for other.  Has anyone used it? I really like that it is independent because I need my grade 6 student doing as much as he can on his own this year.  What about “Total Health” by Susan Boe?  Too text booky?  Not independent enough?  Most people don’t look too impressed with the teachers guide and it is very pricy.  Can anyone recommend anything they have used/like?  I’m not very good at piecing my own thing together from various sources.

Is this a required subject in your state? If not, I would simply count all time running, jumping, playing sports, biking, etc as PE. As for health, I consider learning to cook, basic hygiene, simple first aid, etc. all practical, useful and helpful. These are simply the everyday life type of things we’re doing anyway. For girls, American Girl has a book titled The Care and Keeping of You that is helpful. I’ve not looked yet for a boy type of book. Ithe AG book has good info and is a simple addition. Its enough for us, maybe something similar could work for you?

I am using Total Health for my sixth grader this year. It is very conversational and she likes it. It is a little textbooky (if that is a word). It has vocabulary words and questions. We read the sections and then do narrations instead. I found mine used on Amazon for about $10. I plan to use half of the book this year and the other half next year to fulfill the state requirements for health. I don’t if this helps or not, but I recommend it.

Thanks, LyndaF.  So, using that approach you wouldn’t need the workbook or the teachers guide?

I didn’t get either one. I didn’t think it was needed while using narration.
