We are using Pathway Readers this year and loving them. But I have a question about which book to use next for my 8 year old son. He has just finished More Busy Times. At the SCM store, the next one would be New Friends, which I have, but I noticed at our local bookstore that the next one is Climbing Higher. Why the discrepancy? Which should I use next?
petitemomParticipantClimbing higher would be 4th grade.
MissusLeataParticipantIt’s listed on the 2nd grade reading books for Milestone books. ???
So, I’m guessing that it won’t be a problem if I just go from More Busy Times to New Friends?
sarah2106ParticipantClimbing higher is 2.3 grade (More Busy Times is 2.2)
New friends is 3.1 grade
I think you could skip Climbing Higher (2.3 grade level)
I picked up almost the entire set used ($2/book) so I just looked through them real quick 🙂 New Friends are bit longer of chapters, but the books look pretty similar in ability to read (it was a quick glance, not indepth)
sarah2106ParticipantI think Climbing Higher was added to the series. Its original publication date is 1983 but New Friends is 1977.
The order of thd books listed in Climbing Higher is
First Steps 1.1
Days Go By 1.2
More Days go By 1.3
Busy Times 2.1
More Busy Times 2.2
Climbing Higher 2.3
New Friends 3.1
More New Friends 3.2
petitemomParticipantSorry, got mixed up. the 4th grade is Building our Lives.
Whatever Sarah said.
MountainMammaParticipantThanks for the info, Sarah. I’ve been following this thread because we’re about to finish up More Busy Times and I already have Climbing Higher.
