It’s been a LONG time since I have needed to write a resume.  But I would like to put one together.  I was asked about working for my accountant as a at-home data entry worker but said to wait till after 1st quarter taxes to discuss it.  I am also her friend.  So I thought instead of calling and asking it would be more professional to send a resume and some type of cover letter with my desire to work for her if the possition still is available.  But I don’t know how or what this would look like any more.  Being she’s my friend she knows I do my dh’s books for his business and run the house, that’s why she thought of me.

How do you think the resume or the cover letter should look?  What would I say as to why I would like the job? Any help would be greatly appreicated as I am hopeful that the job is still an option for me.

Just my two cents – I think you should call her first, telling her that you’d like to put together a resume and letter for her, and ask specifically about the duties. Ask what types of skills and assets she really needs in an employee, then tailor your letter and resume to those needs.

As far as anything else in the letter, keep it fairly professional. I’d suggest thanking her for the opportunity to apply, stress the myriad tasks that you are able to do each day – successfully – then make sure to include some knowledgeable references (on a separate sheet), even if they are from church or volunteer activites. Make sure they can speak to the specific needs she stated her business lacks. There is no conflict in mentioning to your references that your potential new employer thought of you because of your ability to _______. You could have references write letters of referral ahead of time to include in your packet or just list their contact info and how youare acquainted with them, professionally.

Have fun and good luck with this new adventure, Misty! HTH
