OT: Possibly traveling to Virginia Beach

Is there anyone who can help me with this area?

DH has a conference in Virginia Beach in September, and we’re thinking we all may tag along.

Would love to visit Williamsburg, Jamestown, Monticello and/or Washington DC. We’ll be there for a week if we go.

Any suggestions? Are any of these a day trip do you think?

Any possibility of taking a train into DC from there? Or would you even recommend it?

If we went to DC and stayed overnight, any suggestions for hotels in the city proper (that are safe)?

Any and all suggestions welcome! We would not want to do the theme park there as we just went to Disney in September and Holiday World last week.

We would want to do anything historical, especially pertaining to Early US History as we are just beginning Module 5 this week!

I was so excited when DH came home and told me of the conference he just found out he needs to attend.
