Both dd13 & I have sore joints/muscles at one elbow & wrist from “extreme snow-shoveling,” and I’ve been applying something called Amish Origins ointment that seems to help. It appears we both have tendonitis & it could take a week or so to heal. (It’s only been 2 days since it started.)

The problem is that the Amish Origins salve was a small sample someone gave me, and it’s nearly gone. Has anyone used this & purchased it in a store? Or do any of you have a recipe for something natural or comparable? Its active ingredients are menthol and camphor, plus it has eucalyptus, pine needle, and petrolatum in it. I am not sure which essential oils I might have, but I know I have peppermint essential oil for sure.

Just looking for something that will lessen our reliance on ibuprofen and actually help with healing. I guess we are off the U.S. Olympic Snow-shoveling Team….no Sochi for us!

Have you tried extra vitamin C? It seems to help my son when he overdoes it with his muscles.

On a homeopathic note, arnica montana would help. I have it in tablet form and a cream base called Trauma One. I also have a Colidial Silver gel that helps with stiffness, minor pain, and minor inflammation.

For essential oils, you could try Wintergreen for joint pain, for strains try Basil, and for tendonitis you can try Marjoram, Lemongrass and Basil. You would massage a few drops topically to the affected area 4-5 times a day.

I struggled with tendonitis for years (off and on, depending on how I take care of myself) – and Have found that the best thing for me is to stretch that area (gently!) often; to have massage and chiropractic adjustments when it’s inflamed and bothering me.

I have used Sore No More – warm therapy by Sombra with incredible results for arthritic type pain. It has camphor and menthol as it’s main ingredients. It is for minor aches and pains of muscles and joints. I found it at a local health food store, but it is on line at various places if you google it.

I would put it on with a paper towel(do not get this on your fingers!) right before bed and it significantly relieved the pain! I have a friend that used the cold therapy version and she felt it gave the same amount of relief. For her, she put it on at bedtime only and she was able to stop wearing her leg brace due to the significant relief from pain.

Hope this helps and may you heal speedily!!!

LOL.  My son reports Sochi doesn’t need much snow shoveling–he’s on the other side of the Black Sea right now and the winter has been milder than usual and there isn’t enough snow.  🙂  Apparently they are going to try to “make” some although I have no idea how one does that.  LOL
