You grind the grain in your Blendtec BLENDER, right? I did see that Blendtec has a grain mill.

I’m all about having appliances that are multi-tasking!! I don’t have storage for a blender and a grain mill.

I see Costco has a Blend Tec for $350!  I could maybe Wink well we’ll just say snuggle my dh a bit more and get a few more bucks.  It seems that what I seee online Blend Tec is comparable to Vitamix without the high tag!

I did look at the Montell one but saw way to many bad reviews Frown, and the good were not outstanding.

Ok.. In laws have a costco membership guess it’s time to go visit!

Yes, I grind it in my blender.  The same blender jar I make smoothies in.

I think I will get one too! A friend of mine said she grinds sprouted grains in hers w/out drying them first, that sounds even better then a mill to me!

This is the review my husband was telling me about.  It is for a Breville blender for $199.  Check it out!

Go to http://www.reviews.cnet.com and at the top search for breville blender.  It is called Breville Hemisphere Control Blender.  Right now it is at the top of the page.

    Thanks for sharing Rebekahy!

On another note.. where do you get extra pitures?  My dh said if we get a blender we should get two because we spend so much time waiting for the container to be washed.  Thoughts?

The Blendtec that I got from Costco came with 2 – a “wild side” larger one and then a “normal” size one.  The current vitamix at Costco (not sure if it’s the same one they are offering thanksgiving weekend comes with the dry and the wet ones.

The Vitamix container is SO EASY to clean, like the Blendtec’s I think. So much easier and quicker to clean than the regular blender I used to have. You don’t have to take anything apart to clean the Vitamix. Put a couple cups of water in the container, a drip of dish washing liquid, run it on high, and rinse. Occasionally I need to clean something thick or gooey from the inside with a sponge, but it is easy to clean even the thick and gooey stuff after having run some water and dish washing liquid on high for a few seconds. We use our Vitamix multiple times a day for all kinds of things and it never takes long to clean the container, even using it for back to back recipes. We do have the dry blade separate for grinding grains, but we got that on sale with gift money. Otherwise, I would have ground grains in the regular wet blade container. You can grind in the wet blade as well, just the dry blade is recommended because the shape and turn of the blade is more efficient for grinding. I hear using the wet blade for grinding makes the container look cloudy, maybe scratches it slightly, and you have to grind in smaller amounts so the grains don’t heat up much. Never tried it, but something to research before spending around $100 for any extra container. HTH and saves you some $$$ .

I know the original post was along the lines of “What can I get that isn’t a Vitamix?” But I have to say that my Vitamix is 27 years old and works great! I have replaced a blade assembly because I was trying to shred frozen cheese cubes. But really 27 years! I can’t vouch for how long the new ones will last, and it hasn’t been used every week all that time, but you get the idea.

A lot of what we make is frozen–ice cream, frozen fruit and yogurt drinks, we’ve done grain grinding and bread dough a lot, some nut butters and a couple kinds of soup.

My mom got a new one a couple weeks ago, and I went over to make some things to get her started. I don’t know how many models there are, but hers was very automatic; and I like to have choices. Mine has all kinds of speeds and forward and reverse. So I don’t know what I’ll do when it’s time to buy something new.

I just thought I’d mention that it might be worth the investment with that kind of lasting quality.
