I have an almost 8 yr old with about a year and a half of piano experience. When we moved in dec we took a break from lessons, but now are ready to start something again. However, I had a baby in Jan and now formal lessons are not in my budget or schedule permitting. (I have a disabled 5 yr old in a wheelchair, a 2 yr old and the baby. I don’t leave the house if I can help it 🙂
Does anyone have suggestions for alternative “lessons”. Perhaps video based instruction?
Thank you!
Rheanna
missceegeeParticipantYou could try the Piano for Life DVD series. My dd12 took 6 years of lessons, but piano isn’t her passion, so we discontinued lessons a few months ago. However, we don’t want her to lose all that she’s learned, so she practices on her own each week and uses these DVDs.
Laura.boraParticipantWith a year and a half of piano lessons under your 8yos belt, I’m not sure it would be the best fit for you, but we use (and LOVE) Simply Music (www.simplymusiconline.com). They used to have DVD programs, but have switched to online videos only. I personally love that it is online now. No more worrying about someone scratching the DVDs!
ShannonParticipantI was going to suggest looking into Simply Music also…

2flowerboysParticipantCurrently, Homeschool Buyers Co-op has a sale for Simply Music. All you need to do is join for free.

HollySParticipantAnother option…could you find someone to come to your house for lessons? Maybe a local teen homeschooler or church member?
BookwormParticipantI was just going to suggest the same thing as Holly–find a young woman (church, high school, local college?) to come to your home at least periodically and supervise her improvement.
