Just wondered if anyone out there ever used Barton Reading and Spelling through the 9th grade and beyond?  I was told that while using this system, it is best not to combine it with any other English/Grammar courses.  This makes sense to me; my only conncern is that most by this age are getting deeper into writing/compositionn type work  My son, though not officially diagnosed, seems to have many of the challenges that fall under the ‘dyslexia umbrella’ ( i.e. EXTREME difficulty with spelling, handwriting etc.).  I wondered if any of you used “audio” courses that would count as an English unit on a transcript for college admission? I know he would need at least 3-4 “units” for most of our local colleges; but, I don’t see him jumping into an advanced English comp. or Literature that requires alot of writing.  He just isn’t there yet, and may need 2-3 more years to complete this Barton system  I don’t want him to be rushed, but, I know the next 4 years will be important as far as a transcript goes.  Any ideas of some upper level English options for my son (going ito 9th next year but working behind grade level due to spelling and writing difficulties)

I had asked Susan Barton about composition.  She said it was fine to start IEW once a child was through Level 4 of the Barton program.
