Soyna, If I have the older version of this book and don’t want to buy a entire new one.. by any chance will you have something for us?  Like a side book/addition we could buy with just the updates?  Or is is so totally redone you couldn’t do that?

    Thanks Misty

There are too many changes and additions to do a quick summary, Misty. The new version will have the Ancient Egypt readings scattered throughout the year, plus some new children’s commentaries added to the Bible readings, plus pre-reading reviews and exam questions. You can see the differences between the two editions on this chart.

Keep in mind that those who already have the older version will be able to get the new version at half price.

Great charts!! Thank you. Will the optional books still be listed in the weeks they should be read? Love that you added pre-question and term questions.

If we have already made it through about a third of the first edition how difficult will it be to move over to the new edition?

Pharaoh’s Boat is listed during the week it could fit, both on the chart and in the daily lesson plan. The other two optional books are ongoing as desired. For example, the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt is optional for grades 7-12 in case your older children haven’t read it yet and you want them to. In that case, the instructions tell you to follow the same schedule as the assignments for grades 4-6 in that book. And the Child’s Story Bible is available if a parent wants to use it for a few delicately-worded passages. That’s mentioned in the daily plans’ lessons.

If you’ve already done one term in the first edition, you haven’t done any Ancient Egypt yet, because that is all during Term 2 in that edition. The new edition has the Egypt readings scattered throughout the whole year. So you may need to do some rearranging. But just like any guide book, use it how it works best for your family.

I’m happy to announce that we just released the new 2nd edition of Genesis through Deuteronomy & Ancient Egypt. I know we said it would be ready in March so I hope you all don’t mind that we released it early. Smile

For anyone who wants to upgrade, here’s a link to a special page where you can get the new version for half price.

Are they going to be at the Jacksonville Conference?

We have the first edition of the history Module 1 and are beginning the last term (Exodus-Deuteronomy).  I see where Exodus:  A Commentary for Children is a book recommended in the updated edition and I was wondering how this would be utilized.  As a reference source for more in-depth study if the children show interest;  as the lesson itself; a teacher resource to prepare for the lesson….?

You could use it in any of those ways, mj, depending on the ages of your children. In the lesson plans, it is recommended to read the Scripture passage and narrate it, then read the corresponding commentary chapter aloud. But you could customize its use by assigning it to the older children to read or using it for your own learning and just reading aloud portions that you want to share alongside the Scripture.

Thanks Sonya.  I had thought all those could be possibilites but was curious as to what is recommended.  I’ve read the first lesson and am glad you guys added this as a recommended resource.  I’d not heard of this series and even though it’s written as a children’s commentary, I found it very helpful for myself.  Thanks again.
