I am using Laying Down the Rails for Children and I would like more ideas for short stories, tales, poems, and picture books to read for our lessons.  Here are the titles I have so far:

Obedience – Tale of Peter Rabbit, Lamplighter’s Hedge of Thorns, Library Lion, Story About Ping, Jonah

    Self-Control – Lamplighter’s Teddy’s Button

Truthfulness – The Honest Bunny by Jan Karon, Babar: To Duet or Not to Duet, The Adventures of Obediah, The Boy Who Cried Wolf, poem: The Boy Who Never Told a Lie

Please share more titles, as we are planning to spend 6 – 8 weeks on each habit.  Thanks!

The Boy Who Held Back the Sea is a great story for self-control.

    Thanks.

Katie’s Adventure at Blueberry Pond is a great story for both obedience and truthfulness!

I am finding many lessons in Polite Moments to use along with many habits.

For obedience I found more titles, though I have not used them yet: Franklin is Lost, Pokey Little Puppy, and Budulinek, an old folktale.

On the Sabbath, we use the Bible Journey Series from Christian Light Publications.  We just started the grade 4 book: Stories of Joshua, Judges, and Kings.  Obedience seems to be an ongoing theme in this book of 10 Bible lessons.  We also enjoy the supplementary stories in the back of the book of a modern day application story for each lesson.  I use only the teacher guide, with all ages.  Students draw or color something related to the story while I read aloud.  We discuss it afterwards.  So it is very inexpensive without the student booklets.
