I had a chance to buy a cheap copy of the oxford book here from SCM but lost it due to thinking I could order it through Oxfords website. Little did I know that it did not work out for me and now we are beginning our first day of school monday without our oxford book. I have just about every other resource I need but this book! Not sure what to use instead of! I can’t seem to wrap my mind around using anything else although it looks like I have no choice since I don’t want to spend $100.00 on this book elsewhere! Should have bought it while I had the chance but we are over budget for our homeschooling curriculum as it is!

Read this thread.  My post has the list of chapters from the Oxford book matched up to the Lesson numbers from Modules 1-3.  Use the topics listed in those lessons to find books from the library.  In Module 1 this is especially easy to do.  The Oxford book is mainly used as additional readings in the 7-9th grades for Module 2 (I think, but I marked it on that list.)  Please know that you will not ruin your children, their education, or your homeschool if you substitute books – and it is not worth throwing out your budget.  You will be okay. 😉  Many of us substitute.

    Sheraz,

Thank you! I remembered seeing your post on this subject somewhere else. The oxford book looks so good….guess that’s why im a little sad that we can’t use it but that’s ok. I need to remember to RELAX and take this homeschooling one day at a time. I tend to be a pefectionists when it comes to things like this!LOL! Thanks so much for your link.

Thank you! We placed an order with the OUPUSA two weeks ago and they cancelled it before it was fufilled. it was back in print for a moment and gone again to Out Of Print status. They even checked with the Brittish distributors to try to get extra copies. No luck.

It’s available to buy for a good price here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/0195213734/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

It’s the same book, just British spelling.  It’s listed in British pounds, but just click on swich currency when you check out. Obviously the postage would be more.

    Or try this http://www.fetchbook.info/compare.do?search=9780195213737

    caycecronk,

OK, it might be that the first seller in the list doesn’t ship internationally. THe second one (Jules Bookshop) does, and I’ve tested it by putting it my cart and taking it all the way to the very last “confirm” button at checkout.  It came out at $42 total with shipping.  I’ve now taken it out of my cart, so it should be available for you to purchase.

    ruthm,

Thanks! For some reason it will not process my order from my computer at amazon. Anytime I order from amazon I have to use the computer at the library. So hopefully I can get over there today and make the purchase if hubby will allow this in our budget. Thanks so much!

    ruthm,

I got it to work from the library computer today! Ordered the one from amazon you shared with me and nabbed it for around $50.00 with shipping….which is not a bad price. Hubby said it would be a good investment and im so relieved and HAPPY we got it. From what I’ve seen the Oxford book is a great book and I just couldn’t imagine using anything else.

Great!  I’m glad you found it. When looking for a book I usually check fetchbookinfo.com  They list the best second hand prices available.  You can click on USA listings or UK listings (and others I’m sure). I generally find what I’m looking for.

You can also rent it as a college textbook for a very reasonable price.

Just Google it and you should be able to find it. (if any one is still looking that is).

    Kristen,

Since we will be using it all year I decided to buy it BUT that was gonna be my second thing to try…..to either rent it or get my library to look for it elsewhere for loan! Thanks for sharing that!
