    Hello,

I am new to SCM but not new to CM. Have been using other CM stuff for the last 2 years. However my son is not doing well with it, it is a bit advanced for him. This looks perfect for him!

Question 1- Do I use ALL of the books listed for history from yr.1-yr3?

Question 2- Looking through the forum, I saw mention of using a History spine. Is this in addition to all of the other listed history books and is this necessary? Pros and cons of this?

Thank you in advance for your time and expertise 🙂

    Blessings,

    Vanessa

Hi, Vanessa, and welcome. I’ll try to answer your questions below.

Question 1- Do I use ALL of the books listed for history from yr.1-yr3?

Select one of the history modules, click “details,” then look at the grades 1-3 section. You can use all the books listed in that section, or use just some of them. It’s up to you. They are merely suggestions. 🙂

Question 2- Looking through the forum, I saw mention of using a History spine. Is this in addition to all of the other listed history books and is this necessary? Pros and cons of this?

Again, it’s up to you whether you want to use a spine. Some people like to just read biographies from the time period; others prefer having an overview of the events and people in chronological order and then adding in biographies as they fit. Several spines are listed in the history modules. For example, the “Famous Men” series from Greenleaf Press would be appropriate for grades 1-3. I think the Guerber books would be better with older children, personally, but download a sample from Nothing New Press and see what you think. Then the Genevieve Foster books are nice, too.

Did you see this thread on Do you use a spine? It might help with the pros and cons.
