The new nature journals look amazing! I see that there is a focus on nature journaling through the seasons. I live in South Florida and the seasonal changes here aren’t anywhere near as noticeable as in other parts of the country.

For instance, the first study recommended studying trees in the fall. The trees look the same here in the Fall as they do the rest of the year. LOL. Some trees lose their leaves in cold winters-but very few at that. Do you think this nature journal would be as valuable to those of us living in a more tropical climate?

We tried to make the prompts for each season fairly generic so that it would be useful in a variety of climates. We don’t tell you exactly what to look for, but guide you to notice any differences or something new you might not have noticed before.

I’m so glad you asked this question. I’ve looked at the sample several times and each time I love it, but I live in suburban Southern CA where it never snows, the trees don’t change, etc. I’m so thankful for all the nature study opportunities God brings into our home and yard, but our nature studies are very different than one would do in, for instance. NH. This books looks fabulous, though!

Thank you Karen! I think I’m going to pick it up at convention next month. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. It looks like it might be just the thing to give our nature study the boost it needs.

Alphabetika-I empathize with you! Though it’s nice not to deal with snow, I do long to see the seasons change just a bit more. 🙂

We are on the east coast of Florida south of the Space Center. I totally feel you on the lack of seasons! Irs already so hot this year I feel like we skipped spring all together! It didn’t even freeze one night this winter.

Ah Kayla, someone to commiserate with! My friend and I were just discussing this yesterday. It seems we didn’t get much of a fall and now we are missing out on spring. :-/

I usually try to get outdoors more before the heat of summer hits but I think I’m too late this year! I’m still holding out for a late front to at least push some of the humidity out of the air.

Well at least we don’t have to deal with snow and freezing temps and blizzards during the winter. I could have worn shorts on Christmas Day! We also have such a rich supply of water birds to study! I live near Lake Okeechobee but my grandparents lived on Merritt Island while I was growing up and I have many lovely memories of watching the space shuttles take off-we usually watched from Jetty park I believe. Have you been to Kennedy space center lately?

I went as a child but my kids have never been. I would love to take my daughter. I’ve heard it’s wonderful nowadays.

Could this be used as a “science” course for a late grade 2 student?  I was thinking of using the nature prompts as topical prompts and we could go through and add living books etc…

If so, could anyone give me a better idea of what all the “topics/prompts” are that are touched upon by each season?

Melanie! We went to Jetty Park today! My husband grew up in Merritt Island.  I grew up in Satellite Beach. We definitely had no fall or spring this year.

We haven’t been to the space center in a long time it is expensive. Like $45 a person.  We had a rocket launch last week that went off one afternoon.

What a coincidence that I should mention it. I hope y’all had a wonderful time. 🙂

I have heard that it’s expensive. We’ll probably never go but it would be fun!

I haven’t seen a rocket launch in years. It’s a neat experience to see one take off from such a close up location.
