I’m pleased to let everyone know that we’ve rolled out some changes to the CM Organizer this morning.

It has always been a bit confusing that we categorized resources in the Bookfinder by “subject” and then when you schedule a resource you get to choose what school “subject” to use it for. In hindsight, using the same term for two different things was probably not a good idea. 🙂

So now in the Bookfinder we call them “tags”. You’ll see that the advanced search drop-down menu for searching by subject is gone and tags are included in the main search. (We still use the word “subject” up in the main search box as a reminder that you can search on words that might be a subject.)

And since the search options are more streamlined now, we got rid of the option to show and hide advanced search. It all shows by default now.

You might be thinking that with a name like “tags” there could be more to this than just subjects. And you would be right. 🙂 Tags could be more than just subjects. So instead of resources being categorized only by a fixed list of school subjects like “math” or “science”, we’ll probably add some tags like “middle ages” or “used by Charlotte”.

And if you’re thinking there still could be even more to it, you would be right again. But we’re not quite ready to say what that’s all about. 🙂

Enjoy it and please let us know what you think. Thanks!

    Doug (for the SCM team)
