You can only use that link on your mobile device. It won’t work in a desktop browser. Just load http://simplycharlottemason.com/barcode.html on your phone and then touch the link within that page.
I just tried it and here is my experience. The process of scanning the book worked just fine on my iPhone 3GS. The scanner opened up easily, scanned the barcode easily and put it directly in the correct field.
Here’s the little snag. I scanned the barcode of “One Morning in Maine”. It’s a book that’s already in the CMO Bookfinder. The scanning put in the barcode into the field no problem and I clicked “Look up Resource”. It did not find the version from the Bookfinder because the scanner put in the barcode number is 9780760526277. The number that would have pulled up the book from the bookfinder was the actual ISBN number 0-670-52627-4.
There are two types of ISBN numbers, 10-digit and 13-digit. The problem is that the book was entered with the 10-digit number but your scan is the 13-digit number so it doesn’t match in the search. There are ways to convert the numbers and I think we should probably make some modifications to store it both ways. I’ll add that to our list.
Oh of course. I forgot about the two formats. Goodness! I absolutely love the idea and how easy it was to use! Looking forward to useing it more as our school year progresses.
