I need birthday gift ideas for a 1 year old little girl. I have looked all over the internet for just the right thing but I am short on time and can’t find exactly what I’m looking for either.

Her parents are wonderful Christian people who are very similar to my husband and I. They are minimalists just like us and would prefer not to have their little one receive a ton of “usual” toys. That being said they are similar to alot of us on this forum: whole foodies, all natural living, etc. I would love to get or make Liberty (yep, that’s her name!) something that is original and not typical. KWIM?

    Do you have any ideas?

I have NO IDEA what kind of thing you are really looking for, so this may be completely off base.  How about those wooden Melissa and Doug food sets that you can “cut” with the wooden knife?  Every little kid I know loves those things.  Even a 1 year old can do it and they just love being able to cut the food.

The Haba wooden peg board is one my son really loved between the ages of 1 and 3.  This was one of the best toys he ever received.  He never seemed to get tired of playing with it.  Could be choking hazard if the child likes to put things in their mouth.  We always sat my son at the table during schoolwork with this so I was right there to watch him.  Well worth the money, but I bet  Amazon has it cheaper.

We were in kind of a bind with what to get for my dd when she turned 1 since she was the youngest and we had all of the baby toys/stuff that we cared to have already! We ended up getting her a set of playsilks which have been a hit with all of the kids. They are on the pricy side, but you can buy different sizes/sets depending on what your price range might be. Unfortunately I can’t remember now where we got ours, so I can’t send you a specific link.

We also always do a new book or two per year on birthdays for our kids…perhaps a classic board book or two? I’m thinking things like Goodnight Moon, etc. I have a list of some of our favorite board books on my blog right here… http://snowfallacademy.blogspot.fr/p/favorite-read-alouds.html

My go-to gift for first birthdays is a really special bedtime story book and a nice pair of pajamas. I wrap the book in the pajamas and tie it with a big bow 🙂 I usually do something like Goodnight Moon or I’ll Love You Forever.

When my youngest was that age she enjoyed these items:

    Bach For Babies

    Baby Signing Time

Bilibo – we bought her the pink one and she still loves it

I agree with Charlene my kids loved those too when they were young.  I also think the kids “play set” things are a good idea.   Can she walk yet?   If she can then a water baby and a stroller are always nice.  Little ones always like to play mommy when they are young. I think we can always learn whet kind of parent we are by watching our little ones mimic us. Surprised .   My daughters first birthday she received dresses from our relatives. I was so happy because she really needed them since almost everything she had was only up to 9 months.

wwww.fatbraintoys.com.  Search by gender and age, most of their toys don’t use batteries and involve thinking:)
