So which narration book did you find the most helpful and why? I’m trying to decide which one to get.  I need something simple and straight forward and yet not so simple that it really isn’t helpful. lol

So, here are the choices I know about:  Hearing & Reading, Telling & Writing or Your Questions Answered: Narration or, Know and Tell: The Art of Narration

I loved all three books, but would definitely start with Your Questions Answered: Narration.  It is very straightforward, step-by-step, and easy to understand.  It is also comprehensive in that it describes the progression of the four different types of narration questions, provides sample narration questions and a long list of alternative narration ideas, and answers many specific questions from other moms.  If I remember correctly, it is the only of the three books that succinctly describe the five steps of narration.

Hearing and Reading, Telling and Writing covers many more subjects than narration.  Of the three books, it probably contains the least comprehensive discussion on narration because narration is covered in a single chapter (although referenced in multiple chapters).  This book contains an overview of ALL of “language arts.”  If you download the free sample, you can view the contents, plus several charts comparing CM methods and traditional language arts subjects.

Know and Tell: The Art of Narration is broader in scope in that it delves into the progression of written narrations and compositions, as well as a more detailed description of higher level narration questions/conversations.
