Ok, hubby and I are going on a trip soon, sans kids. So far I have a Mitford series book, but would also like a nonfiction, inspirational book too. Any suggestions?
Thank you! 🙂
SueParticipantOne Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

Dancing with my father : how God leads us into a life of grace and joy by Sally Clarkson
….looking forward to seeing what others recommend also!
SueParticipantWait a minute, you’re going on a trip with your husband without the kids and you’re taking books? Skip the new book and buy a new piece of lingerie instead….
simple homeMemberLOL, I will Sue! But I need a few books while he is in meetings (business trip). I like Sally, I will check into that book. One Thousand Gifts is one of my top ten. Thanks!!
LadyofthehouseMemberSplendor In the Ordinary by Thomas Howard
For the Family’s Sake by Susan schaeffer macaulay
simple homeMemberI have For the Children’s Sake, but didn’t know about the Family one. Sounds interesting.
LindseyDParticipantRadical by David Platt (Some might not find this inspirational, but my hubby and I sure got inspired after reading it!)
One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp
The Heavenly Man by Brother Yun and Paul Hattaway (an amazing true story about a Chinese Christian man)
These are fiction, but some of my most favorite books ever:
The Last Jihad, The Last Days, The Ezekiel Option, The Copper Scroll, and Dead Heat all by Joel Rosenberg
Redeeming Love, The Atonement Child, And the Shofar Blew all by Francine Rivers
Blessings!

missceegeeParticipantIshmael by E.D.E.N. Southworth and others by Lamplighter publishing.
JanellParticipantI highly recommend Evidence Not Seen by Darlene Deibler Rose…if you haven’t read it already.
maynegirlMemberbaileymomMemberIf you have infants/preschoolers, I highly recommend Loving the Little Years by Rachel Jankovic. Easy, inspirational read. Or Family Driven Faith by Voddie Baucham is excellent!
Listening for GOD by Marilyn Hontz is another one of my favorites.
And I second Redeeming Love and Joanna Weaver’s books!
LadyofthehouseMemberI forgot to mention the book I’m currently reading and really enjoying; I am certainly finding it to be an inspirational read:
“Beyond Stateliest Marble, The Passionate Femininity of Anne Bradstreet” by Douglas Wilson
pianogirl363ParticipantA few of my favorite non-fiction books to try, if you’ve never read them –
The Story of the Trapp Family Singers – Maria Augusta Trapp
The Hiding Place – Corrie ten Boom
Also, falling into the fiction category, but not really fiction as they follow very closely the Biblical timeline, are the Chronicles of the Kings series by Lynn Austin. The 5 books in the series are gripping and were very inspiring to me.
Have fun on your trip! 🙂

MamaSnowParticipantHere’s a second for Loving the Little Years – I got it back in May and have already read it twice. Probably one I will come back to again and again as long as I have littles in my house. =)
Radical was another good read for us this year – although, you may want to be prepared to be convicted. We were and are actually changing our ministry focus in part because of it….
I just started reading The Discipline of Grace by Jerry Bridges – the first two chapters have also spoken to me where I am right now.
Happy Reading!
simple homeMemberRadical is actually a book that my cousin suggested recently, her husband is a friend of the author. Dh has that on his list to read, so my plan is to read it after he is done.
Wow! I have a lot of good suggestions to sort through and decide. Thanks to EVERYONE for taking time to respond! 🙂
