This will be my first year using a CM approach to homeschooling and I have a narration question…

Do you have your younger kids narrate all books you read together (including for-fun read-alouds) or just the books you read for certain subjects (science, history, etc.)? Thanks so much for any feedback!

    Hi Jessica!

Charlotte Mason recommended holding off on requiring narration until age 6, I believe. After that, I would start slowly, one subject at a time, to give a child time to get the hang of narration.

Charlotte Mason did have children narrate all school readings. Most of us do not have our children narrate just for fun read alouds since those are a family activity, not a school activity.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful first year with CM methods!

Here’s a link to a wonderful blog series Sonya did on the topic of narration.

It should answer most, if not all, of your questions. 🙂
