Narration-how many times per day?

I am wondering how many different subjects we should be narrating. In order for the child to be really good at narrating, I assume that we should do it as often as possible. However, I would like for some things to be just a relaxing, enjoyable read for them.

I am reading the new SCM Lang. Arts Handbook and am really loving it. However, I am still not sure about the number of narrations per day or per subject. My children are in 3rd and 4th grades this year. I just read that my 4th grader should be reading for herself and narrating what she read too. HMMM…had not been doing that! LOL!

    Suggestions please 🙂

    Just a couple of suggestions:

    • Maybe some ideas on this discussion about narration frequency will help for starters. Feel free to post more questions that discussion might bring up in your mind.
    • And remember to make the transition gradually into having your 4th grader read for herself.

Glad the new Language Arts handbook is proving helpful!

Okay, that makes sense. If I would have used some common sense I would have realized that we do not even do EVERY subject every day. LOL Every day is different as far as subjects go.

They could potentially narrate in Bible, History/Geography, Science, Read alouds, their Languge Lessons sometimes are narrations and their own reading books. That might be a bit much for an 8 yr. old boy, ya think? 🙂

I have decided to get them to orally narrate from one subject per day (I’ll choose the subject that would be best according to the reading sections for that day) and begin letting my 10 yr. old try narrating from her chapter book that she reads to herself daily. (If that sounds more reasonable.)
